Getting Technical

The Press body is made of two heavy duty microwave-proof, plastic, ventilated platens with two plastic clips to hold the pack together. The Fill-pack (press pads)consists of two heavy duty felt pads and two liners of cotton lawn. The felt pads may shrink with continued usage, but should last for several hundred cycles.

The cotton lawn will stain and may be washed or you can replace them at very little cost. Fill-packs may be damaged, sometimes severely, by overcooking specimens. Replacement fill-packs are available.

So Easy to Use

Most Flowers and leaves  are suitable and should keep their colour if picked at their peak. Place them flat on the cotton liner, trimming the backs of the flowers if needed so they will lie as flat as possible. Add the second cotton sheet, then hold between the felt pads. Now place the whole pack inside the vented plastic press (platen) and hold in place with the clips.

Times in your microwave will vary, the newer ones taking less time than older models. It is better to use several short 5 to 10 second bursts of time rather than setting the microwave for a longer period. This allows you can check as you go along and avoid scorching.

Pansies, geraniums, larkspurs, and cosmos give beautiful results, as do most flowers. Even zinnias and gerbera daisies can be pressed in the Microfleur!

Load the flowers into the press between the cotton liners and the felt pads. The cotton sheets will absorb any excess colours from the flowers and can easily be replaced.

Clip the platens of the press together to stabilise the pack.

Place in the microwave. (no special preparation needed.) Take care not to overcook. Remember to use short 5 or 10 second bursts and check your progress.

Finally check the results. Peel off the pad and cotton liner. Carefully remove the flowers with a spatula or tweezers. Now check your watch as it should show that you have completed the job in only a few minutes.
